Chalkboard Sketch: Surrender

I've had this idea in my head for a year (ish) now, and I'm finally sketching it out. I've just begun working on the "real" version, which will likely be rectangular.

This piece is about surrendering my desires, letting them drift away, and trusting them to God.

Sneak-Peek: Latest Portrait

```````````````````````````
I am working on another mixed-media painting, this one involving pencil, ink, acrylic, and a little oil, on wood panel. PLUS I may have even begun chipping into the wood itself....
I don't have a decent picture of the finished piece yet, but I am far too excited about it not to give you at least a sneak-peek!
This is a small section from the 2x4ft. panel.
My beautiful friend, Ann, let me use a photo of her for reference.
I will try to get a photo of the whole piece soon!
Knock on Wood: Latest sneak peek
``````````````````````````````````````````

This a small look at my almost-finished painting.

My photo reference was an old family photo, like most of my others. As you can see from this bit, this painting is different, more sketchy, and the figures are suggested rather than fully defined. I'm excited to show you the whole piece! I should be posting it soon...

In the Band: Sneak Peek

`````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
Here's a sneak peek of my latest portrait:
 For my surface, I stained a large piece of plywood that had been cut into an oval by a helpful friend; it's roughly 32"x40-something inches (I keep forgetting to measure it).
This obviously is not the whole portrait, but I will be posting that soon!
Not the best photo in the world, but it's only a preview, after all. The bad quality shall serve to increase your suspense for the full portrait soon to follow.
Do you feel your suspense increasing?
Paula K.: Portrait Sneak Peak
```````````````````````````````````````````````````````

This is the beginnings of a portrait of my grandma, Paula K. She's the daughter of Elma, whose portrait I have already posted on this blog.
This is a section of the painting, in it's drawing stage--so technically, it's not a painting yet.

Stay tuned for the final version...

Portrait Sneak Peek #2

Elma, 1932

At this point I've added a wash of watered-down acrylic to the portrait. I'm always surprised at the difference a little shading makes!
To give you a better perspective, this portrait is 35"x45," one of the largest paintings I have ever done. I had to finish this in less than 8 days, so it's also the fastest time in which I have ever completed a portrait.
[I'm only showing you a portion of the canvas; it's actually a vertical composition.]
More to come...

Latest Portrait: Sneak Peek

`````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
Here's a sneak peek of my latest painting:
This is before I added the paint. First I drew the portrait and background with pencil, and this picture was taken when I was going over it with pen. I used pen because I wanted the final painting to have a sketchy (like in a sketch book) quality. I am drawing this from the same 1932 picture of my great-grandma that I posted yesterday. I didn't use a graph because 1) It would take too long, since I had a week to complete this painting (very stressful), 2) After doing several portraits and measuring them carefully until they are "picture perfect," it's a kind of release to freehand this one, and 3) I like how the imperfections add to the sketchiness.
I did a few preliminary drawings (don't I sound professional?) on a smaller scale to prepare for this one.
